Mastering Military Rosters

I have indexed tens of thousands of these records: United States—Enlisted and
Officer Muster Rolls and Rosters, 1916–1939 [Part D] [M9Y8-822]
I have some suggestions to help others index these difficult files more correctly and efficiently.
When I encounter a partly completed file that has been returned, I fix them and submit them. These are some of the problems I see other indexers struggle with.
1 Surname-GIven name mix up. Could you please give more specific instructions to help people who don't know these terms and index the files incorrectly.
2 Adding and removing files for the batch. Maybe a list of prerequest skills would show new indexers what skills they need to know to successfully index these files.
3 Finding military dates: (Not to the Regimental Ball!) These files from the 1918-1919 are often demobilization files and are HUGE!!! I see you are now displaying a prompt to help people find a date on adjacent files, but your prompt doesn't tell people how to access the reference files to do that. When these files cover dozens of pages even the reference files are not enough to point me to a military date. What should we do then? I have submitted thousands of files without military dates because of this problem. Is it possible for the photographers to write and post a date on a post-it note when shooting files that are spread over 6 pages or more?
Thanks for all you do to bring this wonderful service opportunity into my life. Keep up the good work.
