gasmodels said: just for your information I have processed about a dozen people with new hints. I have found 2 good ones the others are all not a match. Most of them english christening records from an incorrect parish (ie same names for child and parents but not belonging to the same family). I have also found a couple of census records hinted that were incorrect and were actually linked to the correct family. So most of my time has been filling out not a match reasons.
It also appears that there a new possible duplicates being generated may or may not be related to the new hinting. so far no matches0 -

John Huff said: Thanks for your specific feedback. If you feel comfortable posting the id of one of the people who has a dismissed incorrect parish hint and one for the previously, correctly linked family from this morning we can review those examples to see if they can help improve future hint releases.
Also, you're correct that possible duplicates are updated at the same time as hints so new possible duplicates are also available as of this morning.0 -

If there has not been a considerable improvement in the matching algorithm I fear this is going to give me nothing but grief. I already spend much of my time dismissing totally implausible hints, but will reserve judgement until I start to examine how much of a match these new hints will be to my relatives, ancestors and other individuals I am working on.0 -
Paul said: Here's an example of what I regularly encounter. Mary Wrightson is a name found quite commonly in Yorkshire for this period. But the suggested match is for two individuals who already have their respective spouses and census sources attached. Also, their births were ten years apart. But at least they shared the same surname (I frequently come across WRIGHT suggestions for WRIGHTSON records - and not just for the same English county). At least both sets of parents were a John & Elizabeth!
I don't know when this particular hint was added, but if it is one of the ones just added, I believe my worst fears are about to be realised!

Paul said: Inside five minutes, I have also found the below - a hint for not even the same surname. In fact, in 35 years of research I have not come across a WRIGHTSON being indexed as a WRIGHT more than a handful of times and, believe me, I have looked through many thousands of indexed records looking for my surname.

Paul said: Sorry if I have muddled your news of "hints" of sources with "possible duplicate" suggestions. But at least my second example does illustrate what I come across every week, with FS suggestions of hints that do not match my surname, and often not even the country (England) in which my relatives spent their whole lives.0
