A van Helsdingen said: As I've said before, the map is limited by the fact it does not distinguish between Affiliate Libraries and FHCs. Surely it is not that hard to make a second icon to identify Affiliate Libraries? This is important for the records that are viewable at FHCs but not Affiliate Libraries.0

A van Helsdingen said: Something I've also pointed out previously is that some the data is out of date or missing.
In New Zealand for example,
The Wellington FHC has Christmas/New Year closing dates for the 2015-16 holidays.
The Paeroa FHC does not have microfilm circulation priviliges. That is meaningless since the end of microfilm circulation to all FHCs in 2017. So no one has updated the entry since then.
The Harbour Auckland FHC has helpfully posted 2019-20 Christmas closing dates on their Wiki page, but not on the map. At least the map does have a link to the Wiki Page.
I never visit a New Zealand FHC or Affiliate Library without first contacting them to check they actually exist and are open. The map is too unreliable to trust.0 -

Regarding A van Helsdingen's comments, it has been previously said on this Forum that the directors of the individual FHCs change the information by entering data through the "Edit Organization" tab , see the topic
Discrepancy: Family History Centre. Different DETAILS between, x2 locations on "FamilySearch", namely "/locations/"; &, "/wiki/en/...": Why? and the reply by Jon Thomas March 13, 2019.

It would seem that that many FHC directors are not aware of this responsibility, or don't know how to do it. Given that it would seem important to have current details shown in the Location finder, perhaps current procedures need to be changed, or directions given to FHC directors, so that they are aware that they should update FHC details.0 -

As an aside ...
The problem/issue, in what you are referring to, is compounded by two (×2) additional factors, on top of what you have discussed:
Firstly, those "Wiki" pages for "Family History Centres" are NOT used as extensively (if, at all) by FHCs outside of the United States of America (particularly, Utah and surrounding States). That is just a fact of life, our Member poulation is not as extensive as in the USA.
Secondly, there has been a change in the Titles of some positions; and, as well, the various Membershp "Systems" are not yet up-to-date with all the various changes - some who sould have certain access do not; and, it can take some work getting the access level just right. Access to change the details on the https://www.familysearch.org/locations/ is one of those areas. It took us some time to get the access right to change/correct the https://www.familysearch.org/locations/ .
They are onto of what you have discussed.

You probably are already know ...
But ...
I just noticed ...
"Find a Family History Center" ...
Has a new URL/Address ...
And, the 'Title' is NOW ... "Find a Family History Center and FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries"
Was ... https://www.familysearch.org/locations/
Now ... https://www.familysearch.org/help/fhc...
The OLD (.../locations/) now seamlessly redirects to the NEW (/help/fhcenters/locations/).
Hope this helps.
Brett
ps: Perhaps there was a "Glitch" those 17 Days ago when you posted; and, the new address; and/or, the redirect was not working - just a thought.

Justin Masters said: Brett, thank you. I didn't know that, since it "seamlessly" transfers me.
Except it wouldn't work on firefox again (it did on Chrome). I did some troubleshooting, and it was due an add-on that had blocked ws.churchofjesuschrist.org for privacy purposes.
It also displayed in a developer window:
Loading failed for the script with source “https://ws.churchofjesuschrist.org/ws.... locations:1165:1
Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://dpm.demdex.net/id?d_visid_ver.... (Reason: CORS request did not succeed).
demdex seems to be some kind of tracking site, which I've had disallowed for quite some time.
enabling the ws.churchofjesuschrist.org site allows the map to work for me (and I still get the demdex error message above, which I don't care about.)
BUT.... there's an oddity seen for my local family history center... Hopefully it will get fixed by the Family History Dept folks...
(You have to zoom in via the maps here to see the problem, not punch in the address)
I live near Sacramento, California (about 90 miles NE of San Francisco, California), and if you look at the icon (location marker) for the closest family history center site (seen east of Sacramento in Carmichael at 2745 Eastern Avenue SACRAMENTO California 95821-6638 ), it gives the proper address, etc. but I happened to notice the PICTURE (I could only see the rooftop at the time) didn't look like the stake center where the regional family history center was located.
(NOTE: If you punch in that address vs drill down to it in the maps, you'll notice the marker points to a slightly different location in the parking lot)
So I clicked the roof picture, and it pulls up a google street maps view of a duplex on Lyle Street.
the FHC is CLOSE to that address. For instance, if you "drive" to the intersection seen nearby in street view, and make a right hand turn, go around the cones for construction, the next driveway IS the stake center. **
So, I don't know what to make of that. I have no idea whose address that is, or how it came to be there (it doesn't correlate to the address (or street!) of the stake center seen above). Maybe the fusion of another database with with GPS coordinates for the stake center being slightly incorrect on google maps... Maybe google is compensating for the shifting of the magnetic north pole as it travels towards Russia, or something... :-)
The shown street map view for THAT FHC *IS* wrong. It appears to be about 2-300' northeast of the family history center location (you can make out the building steeple barely over the duplex's roof next door where the red car is) making that a fairly close physical public street address to that exact location, where other FHC pictures seem to reflect the street in front of the church buildings.
(I checked a couple of other family history center sites/pictures, and they were correct. )
** - Once you get off Lyle Street (where you can see the cones on Eastern Avenue) and get out onto Eastern Avenue itself, the cones disappear. (The google street view car obviously mapped the streets on two different days)0 -

Glad to hear that you were able to 'clear' your problem/issue with "FireFox".
'Yes', those 'Add-On's' (especially, "Blockers") are great; but, can cause unexpected problems/issues that you are not aware about, till you cannot get somewhere you could before ...
Wow ...
Your 'local' is a "FamilySearch Library"; NOT, just a 'plain-old' "Family History Centre".
Supporting, at least, x11 Stakes ...
I would love to be near one of those ...
Yeh ...
That actual location could be a couple of things.
I have had the same with "Searching" for places in the "United Kingdom", where I have been and know; but, they are 'Off' by just a 'smidgen'.
I do not think that those at, "FamilySearch"; and/or, the "Church and Family History Mission", can do much about it; but, you never know.

We are at the Henderson County Library in Henderson, KY. It is supposed to be an affiliate site, but they don't know how to access family search except to tell us to log in with our own login. That doesn't help us; we need access to the locked records.
2nd the Affiliate site search is not working -- 4 different computers, 2 different browsers, and 40 minutes now...
3rd. I realize that the main center has been closed for over a year now, but there is absolutely no reason why nobody is scheduled to pick up the phone or answer a chat!
