I hereby request that the entire Grenada Collection of films be indexed and put online.

Heather McPhie said: The Parish Registers go back to 1842, and FamilySearch own a microfilmed reel of them. You can request to view this film at a local Family History Center. You can order the microfilm through the online ordering system.

It takes time to index records and put them online, but FamilySearch's intention is that its entire collection will be indexed and put online. It's just (understandably) a huge undertaking. In the meantime, you could order the film so your search isn't frustrated.0 -
Paul said: Unfortunately, any programme for putting its microfilm collection online is a subject where FamilySearch prefer to keep patrons "in the dark".
Projected dates for any forthcoming collections to appear online are never given, so you will not be able to discover how far down the line it might be before the Grenada records finally appear.
I can understand the point of not wanting to give dates - to avoid disappointment if something prevents timelines being met - but have always felt that "coming soon" announcements could at least be made when appearance of a collection is quite certain for the near future.
So, John, you will probably have to be very patient or, alternatively, do as Heather suggests and order the relevant films for viewing at your local FHC. Personally, I consider my costs in doing this (over the years) to be money well spent, especially when taking into account: (1) how fruitful this has been in tracing my ancestors, and (2) the huge amount of material available for free to us on the FamilySearch website.0 -
A Andrews said: Heather's suggestion can not help the ten's of thousands of Caribbean People interested in these FH films since there are NO FHC on any island of the Caribbean!
It it very important to attempt to offer the group indexing for these films, particularly the Baptismal Records (since the birth records rarely contain the child's name). Only two films from the set have ever been partly indexed into the IGI (1523169, 1523187) and this does not include all seven parishes.
We're all wondering when efforts will be made in offering group indexing of these films for birth and baptisms nos. 1523490, 1523537, 1523396, 1523656, 1523145, 1523656, 1523204, 1523752, 1523429, 1523217, 1523259, 1523692, 1523479, 1523480, 1523427, 1523408, 1523767, 1523581 and for marriages 1523362, 1523656, 1523361, 1523752, 1523692, and for burials 1523539, 1523581, 1523408, 1523656, 1523537, 1523538, 1523539, 1523408, 1523767, 1523429, 1523752, 1523479, 1523480, 1523692.
Therefore every opportunity should be made to offer this resource online.0 -

Paul said: I missed reading the comments of A Andrews seven months ago. In cases like this - if FamilySearch has the rights to publish online - surely such records should be given priority over those that are generally available elsewhere?
Here in London, England, and in most cities in the USA, we take it for granted that we can just order the microfilm and drop into our local FHC if the record in not available online. I am surprised that residents of places like the Caribbean islands have not complained more about their lack of access to material relevant to their location.0 -

Chas Howell said: Sometimes groups can form and request that they be allowed to Index specific record collections. FamilySearch's new Web based indexing program has within its design the ability to form these types of groups. The people that form the group do not have to be in the same locality, just have internet access. What could be more rewarding than Indexing the records you want yourself?
I would suggest that you contact FamilySearch.org and see if this is possible for your area and desired collection. Often local Genealogical Societies participate in Indexing with FamilySearch on specific records. Just keep after it, you will find someone who can help.

Tom Huber said: I don't know if you read the above comments or not, but two things stand in the way...
First, not all Grenada records were microfilmed. That is true of almost any location, no matter where the place is located.
Second, FamilySearch has to obtain permission to allow the images of the films to be accessed through the site. In some cases, that may not be possible.
For information on what may be available, see https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/.... The available record categories are listed on the right side of the page.
From the looking at the catalog, there are limited records availableThe microfilms have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction may be preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
Approximately 70% (or so has been reported) of all the scanned images have been indexed. If you would like to volunteer to index or help index the films, you may want to join one of the community indexing discussions... The community forums are available as the fourth item in the drop down menu under Help (above).0 -
Juli said: Tom, you have it backwards: about 70% of images on FS are NOT INDEXED.0

Can I claim dyslexia? Or old age (I'm 75)?
I don't know what the exact figure is, but the majority of scanned images have not been indexed, as you stated.0 -
MaureenE said: You may have more notice taken of your request if you post in FamilySearch Community.
Go to the top right hand corner of the FamilySearch webpage, and look under Help
I can only assume by the current request that no (or little) action by FamilySearch has resulted from the above requests over a period of five years, so I think it rather unlikely that this Feedback Forum will result in any action.0
