How to Report a Problem with FamilySearch in this Forum

Gordon Collett said: Problems that FamilySearch Support takes care of need to be reported to Support. Problems that Support does not deal with such as programming bugs and the website not working are best reported on getsatisfaction. (How's that for vague? You can always report things both places!)0

Jeff Wiseman said: Thanks Robert! I actually knew this before I posted :-)
My real issue here, once again, is Family Search related documentation that is poorly thought out. The bullet that I've identified in the list is not coherent with all of the other bullets, and does not logically belong in that list. All of the other bullets tend to be behaviors that are illegal, malicious, or hurtful. The bullet that I identified really isn't any of these, and in fact is usually a good thing for everyone (with the exception of FS employees who have to do more work in screening them :-)
But as long as it IS in the list, nobody is allowed to repeat themselves...
(Darn, I used formatting techniques again here for emphasis. I just can't seem to say anything without violating some poorly documented rules)
(Dang it, I just insulted the rule documenters, didn't I? I better quit while I'm ahead)0 -

If you have comments or are confused about the purpose and use of this forum you may want to refer to this up-to-date thread https://getsatisfaction.com/familysearch/topics/code-of-conduct
"Thank you for the time you spend asking questions and helping others with their family history..."0 -
Woody Brison said: There's a problem there. The first post in that thread is by Ron Tanner, but he doesn't explain what the Code is. He gives a link to an article. And, {drum roll} the article is blank. See thread https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...
There is quite a bit of discussion in the thread, "tldr", and I don't think many would disagree. There are links to "Code of Conduct" that stand out farther down but they are links to images not containing the Code.
And that's not the only problem but I'll save some for later...0 -
joe martel said: Not sure what you are seeing Woody. Ron's post on that thread has a link to https://www.familysearch.org/ask/salesforce/viewArticle?urlname=Community-code-of-conduct and it's visible, not even logged in.0

Jeff Wiseman said: Joe, *I* cannot view the link you provided. There is a problem with the knowledge articles and some browsers. See:

MaureenE said: I cannot currently see the link posted by joe martel December 26, 2019 21:54 using my usual browser Safari, (using an iMac) but I can see it if I change to Chrome. I have also seen the article in the past using Safari, but possibly it had a different URL, although I cannot be sure.0

Tom Huber said: At this point, the linked article https://www.familysearch.org/help/sal... is visible to me using Windows 10 and Chrome. Jeff's reference to the "blank article" discussion is appropriate and pointed out with her experience by MaureenE..
Additional testing using different operating systems (Mac OS vs Windows) and the approved browsers, needs to be done.0 -

Suzanne Muir Slingerland said: I was looking at the "Find a Grave" site when I found my grandparents burial site and marker. Margaret Jane Steed Hess and Milton Miller Hess are my grandparents. They are buried in the Farmington, Utah Cemetary.
Four of their five children are listed on the "Find a Grave" site:
Margaret Hess born and died in 1909, Milton John Hess, Claire Hess Smith, Maxwell Gardner Hess, but my father, Wallace Hess is not listed.
He was born December 12, 1918 and died September 2nd, 1997.

I am not an employee of FS, but we are told that all items posted here are at least read by FS. There's no guarantee of responses though.
Your question has landed in a discussion that is over three years old now. By coincidence, it was a discussion on how to post questions on the forum :-) In fact, it was supposed to be "snoozed" a couple of months back but I guess it got missed. Anyway, when you have a question that isn't currently being discussed, the best thing to do is to create a brand new topic for your question. It will have much more visibility that way and will get quicker responses.
Now, regarding your comment, although Find a Grave provides indexed information to FamilySearch, FS can do nothing about their content. If Find a grave has incorrect or missing data in their records (and they FREQUENTLY do), Only the person handling those memorials at Find a Grave can change anything.
The reason your father's name may be missing from the site could be a couple of things. E.g., he is not buried near any of his siblings, or perhaps the person that originally set up the memorial didn't know about him. In any event, historical records have many mistakes and holes in them. This is just one of them.
Obviously in the FamilySearch FamilyTree you can ensure that all that information is properly captured in the section of the tree where those ancestors of yours are recorded. If you want to get the information corrected on the Find a Grave memorials site, you will need to sign up as a member there and then send the missing information to the person assigned to handling that memorial.
I am not a member of Find a Grave so I've never submitted information for corrections there. But basically understand that Find a Grave and FamilySearch are two totally independent companies, although they do share some data.
Hope this helps some!0 -
Tom Huber said: Indeed, the two organizations are separate from each other. Ancestry owns Find a Grave.
Another thing.to note is that there may not be any Find a Grave entries for your father. What that means is that there is no way to list him with his parents.
Joining Find a Grave is free. You can add joyride father’s information including a photo of the gravestone. Then it is easy to link him with his parents and have him show up as their child.0 -
