Hi! I have noticed errors on my family's data that needs editing. 1. Am I allowed to edit these errors? 2. Am I allowed to add additional information? 3. Am I required to provide sources for each edit and/or addition? Thank you :)

**The errors are most likely due to incorrect public records, including census. A huge thank you to the Indexers! This site is wonderful!

    .

    Short Answers (to your 'Questions'):

'YES'; 'Yes'; and, 'no'; but, if you have them (ie. the "Sources"; or, just, the "Details"), it would be preferred/helpful.

    .

ANY "Registered" User/Patron CAN, both, "Edit; and, "Add", information, of the Records, of the "Deceased" individuals/persons, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    And ..

    You SHOULD ...

    ESPECAILLY ...

If it is for those individuals/persons in your "Ancestral" lines ...

    .

    As an aside ...

    .

Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic nature and premise of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.

    .

    Please let me explain ...

    .

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).

    .

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.

    .

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    Now ...

    That said ...

    .

    As to "Sources" ...

    .

As I suggested, 'No', "Sources" (or, even just, the OFFICIAL "Details") are NOT mandatory; but, they are certainly preferred/recommended/helpful.

    .

IF, one DOES NOT have or access to the actual "Sources"; but, does have access to the "Details" on the OFFICIAL Records; THEN, such "Details" can be included/added to the "Reason Statements".

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett

    .

    FYI

    .

    Furthermore ...

    .

That 'Group', where you posted, being "How to Use FamilySearch Community", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, is more to do with HOW to USE the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, rather than for help/assistance regarding Research.

    .

    As such ...

    .

I am "Moving" this 'Question' of yours, in the 'Group' being "How to Use FamilySearch Community", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, to the 'Group' being "General Questions", in the Forum; so that, the members of that group can answer/assist you.

    .

    And ...

    As an aside ...

    .

I am ALSO "Tagging" this 'Question' of yours, to another specific 'Group' in the Forum being "FamilySearch Tips and Tricks", in the hope that, the members of those groups may be able to answer/assist you.

    .

That Group is "Public", which you can join, if you wish.

    .

I just thought that you may benefit from some others perspective.

It's very helpful to add other sources and also add things to the memories section like certificates, new articles Bible pages etc. More documentation is always helpful.
