How do you access locked records from a Family History Center (when they are open again)? I have tr
I'm referring mostly to German records. They are locked but I can't figure out how to see them regardless of where I am.

I would log into your LDS account first. Then find the specific record(s) you want to view by using the Catalog. I believe the icon alongside might differ, as to whether you are logged in through an LDS account or not. If this still shows you can only view them whilst at a FHC then you (like me, with many of the records I wish to view) will have to wait for your local FHC to reopen. The only alternative would be if there is another website from which these records can be viewed.

I believe the advice that has been provided here in response to similar questions has been to book a consultation: I'm sure another participant in this forum will be able to provide details of the procedure. However, my own thought is that we should be happy to postpone certain aspects of our research, or find alternative means of getting the required information, during this awful period.
I would not wish to trouble volunteers / missionaries to look up specific details for me, as I believe they have enough to do in advising the less experienced in how to use FamilySearch & Family Tree to their best advantage.
Much of the material I need to view is only available through FamilySearch if I visit a FHC or Affiliate library. However, I have found an alternative in these records also being available on Find My Past, so have taken out a short term subscription to enable me to carry on with one particular line of my research.
In any case, FamilySearch will not be able to provide you with any copies of the records in which you have an interest, as that would be in breach of their contractual obligations, I believe. (See note at the top of the page at https://www.familysearch.org/search/)

I should have been clearer. I am not a member so I do not have an LDS account. Is there a generic LDS access account available at FHCs? Otherwise, I have no idea how to view these records.

I understand, I your dilemma.
.
Short Answer (to your latter 'Question'): 'No', not a generic access account.
.
But ...
That said ...
.
Question:
.
When you were at the "Family History Centre" (FHC); and, using a Computer at the FHC (as, your, Personal Laptop/Tablet/Phone, will NOT work, for such), do you remember if you used the "FHC Portal" access?
.
In many instances, at a FHC, one needs to use, the "FHC Portal" access, on a FHC Computer, to access some Records; and, not just any access on a FHC Computer.
.
IF, that even 'Fails"; THEN, at the time, you may need to 'sit down' WITH a (Church Member) "Staff Member" of the FHC, with them using 'their' access, to view the records, that you seek, I have done that before.
.
[ FYI: They "Drove", I was there all the time, I just watched and 'oversaw' ... ]
.
I hope this helps.

Before you visit, use the catalogue to find the exact viewing conditions for the records you are interested in. Be sure you are signed in when looking at the catalogue, because in the past, and possibly still ongoing, you get different information depending on whether you are signed in, or not.
For Affiliate Libraries, I have seen written comment that you will need to Sign In to the FHC Portal on the designated computer using your personal Sign In details, so take your user name and password with you.
I believe it is the same at a Family History Centre, but I have not personally done it.

Hi everyone, does Family Search have volunteers who are LDS members who can help accessing documents which are currently locked? (and since the centers where I am are currently closed due to the pandemic...). Does the community offer this? Thanks for the help!

The Family History Library staff in Salt Lake City, Utah, will have the ability to search limited access collections during this period and can offer patron assistance. To learn more about this option, patrons should explore the free virtual consultations and free records look-up services .

The records look up service does require you to enter an image number on the online form. Many of the British in India records which I am interested in do not have an image number. Will the Library do look ups without an image number?
