Maternal grandmother born in Gelnitz/Gernica in present day Slovakia. Born either in 1899 or 1900, immigrated to the US early 1900s with family. Father's name was Michael Steiner. Birth records were destroyed by fire. Any alternative record system ?

Family was evidently part of a German enclave that had lived in that region of the Carpathian Mts since 13th Century. Originally Bavarians. Grandmother's name was Pauline.
