Anyone knows where to find the index for the civil records for Milan, Italy?
Registri dello stato civile di Milano (Milano), 1866-1929
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1047610?availability=Family History Library
From what I can see the index is missing for most years. For instance, there are some indexes - sometimes one, sometimes four - for the birth records between 1866 and 1872, but after that all the index are missing for all the birth volumes up to 1929.
Due to the huge volume of entries it's extremely difficult to navigate through the records without an index, even in the cases where I do have a specific date of birth. There are just so many!
Any suggestions to where to look for indexes?
And does anyone knows what the different registers (A, B, C, D, C 2 part III, etc.) are meant to cover (like geographic areas or reports outside the town)?
Thanks in advance

@Sara C_1 The Wiki Milano, Italy Guided Research page is not terribly hopeful as far as online indexes. If you click Births on that page, it says "Currently, there is no birth collection that covers a majority of births recorded in Milano." Clicking the What else you can try - Milano Births link you come to additional online resources that points you to browseable images on Ancestry.com (only partially indexed) and other links that might be helpful to you in seeing how other sorts of records might help you find the birth information you need. It's at least a place to start.

Thank you.
I've made a list of all the indexes I could find among the records, just let me know if it could be of help to anyone.
Such a shame the indexes where skipped when recording most of these extremely precious records from Milano, as they contain such treasures of information, but are rendered partly useless without any proper index guide.

Unfortunately, Milan records have not been well documented to this point. The filmed records in FamilySearch are the second copies (tribunale/archive) that were sent to the State Archives, so it's possible that the copies of the indexes were lost, damaged, or not provided. The comune of Milano maintains the original copy of the records, so it may be worth investigating hiring a researcher in Italy to help you with your search.
