Good morning. How comfortable should I be with the Family Tree app information showing direct relationships spanning 1000+ years to multiple kings of England, Scotland and other European nations, and also Roman consuls and emperors? Accurate?

I recently set up a new account on the Family Tree app and completed my tree back to the great-grandparent level. When I checked back two days later I was surprised to see that my tree had been "filled out" by the app going back in some cases dozens of generations, and showing multiple direct ties to various English, Scottish, and European royalty, and in some cases even to Roman emperors and consuls, etc. Very detailed and seemingly accurate, although in a few cases there were date inconsistencies for the 2000+ year old entries. Just trying to get a general sense of how much stock I should put in this tree information, as I had no idea of the "royal" connections (I'm sure millions of others could say the same!). whether its fully documented or not is one question

 

but the fact is - most people of British descent - and even more broadly of European descent - do have royalty in their ancestry - - its just a matter of math - if you go back 20 30 generations - you have MILLIONS of family lines - - its almost certain one of those lines connects into royal lines.

 

any one specific line may need to be researched for accuracy

but do I doubt that that you are a descendant of European Royalty

definitely not - - whether it can be hard proven and fully documented - is a totally different question.

Thanks Dennis, I agree. And I would assume that since historians and well as genealogists have been tracking the royal lines for centuries that their family tree data is reasonably accurate (not perfect), at least going back 1000 years or so.

generally speaking true

but because of the open nature of FamilySearch Family tree

the info there may or may not be in sync with the reasonably accurate records by serious researchers.

Personally, I would "unsubscribe" from getting these kind of notifications. Many FamilySearch patrons consider them a waste of valuable, limited resources.

 

These "campaigns" are as much inclined to baffle users as help in their genealogical research. I'm glad I've opted to not receive such silly messages!
