creating a default person

Where and for what purpose?
At the moment I can't think of any reason why you would want to do this. Since every person record in the system is supposed to be unique, it is different from all others. A default is only useful where the same person record data is to be used in multiple places. There is no real application for this in the single shared FS FamilyTree that I can think of.

@LorneBachiu1 LorneBachiu1 - Your account in Tree is set to show you as the default person (they actually call it the starting person.) You can actually change this which is what I think you are saying. After you sign in click on your name at the upper right corner of the screen and then click on Settings. On the Account page down near the bottom of the list you will see "Family Tree Starting Person" - which should show you. To change this go to Family Tree Preferences and click on Edit. A dialogue box will come up where you can change the Starting Person by putting in the person's ID number. If you want to put in another living person, then you will have to have created this person previously as you will not be able to see living people created by others. If you want a certain deceased person to show as your starting person then just add their ID. Save the screen and refresh your browser and it should take effect.

Jeff, sometimes in the "Tree" view, I get so deep into the family line I get lost and don't know where I am. I was asking if there was a way to get back to me, the default person, in the chart. I have since found out how to do that. Thanks

Brett, sometimes I use the method that Robert Givens indicates, changing the Family Tree Starting Person, to focus on only one line of research, ie a gggrandfather, for a while. Changing the default person from me to him saves a few steps when I log on to my account and reminds me of who I am currently trying to do research on when I am doing a deep dive. Then, when I have finished that deep dive, I change the Starting Person back to me, or to whomever I am next deep diving on. It saves a few steps when we change our default person. I haven't used it recently as I am not as forgetful on where I am doing current deep dives these days.

also keep in mind that each person in FS has a unique URL (web address)
the same way you can bookmark a website on the Internet
you can also bookmark specific people in your family tree - using the functionality of your browser

Ahh! Ok. So you must have now seen where your own name and PID always shows up at the top of the "Recents" list. Select that and whether you want to see the Profile or the chart view.
