I know of someone who made a profile on Family Search. Her mother has passed away, but her mother also has a profile on family search. However they aren't connected as mother and daughter. Is there a way to connect them without making a whole new profile?

    .

Short Answer: 'Yes', there certainly is.

    .

You simply "Add" them as, either, the Mother; or, the Daughter, which ever route that you chose to take.

    .

    ie.

    .

    Daughter "Added" as a Child to the Mother;

    OR

Mother "Added" as a Parent to the Child.

    .

You can do so that by "Adding" using the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID) through the "By ID Number" option in either case.

    .

You certainly should NOT (and, DO NOT) do so by re-entering all the details again.

    .

IF, you do not know how; THEN, just ask.

    .

    I hope this helps.

ps: Here is a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearc'

    .

What are ID numbers used for in Family Tree?

but wouldn't the deceased mothers profile (that she created) still be "in limbo" - because it was probably never marked as "deceased"???

If they were LDS the profile would have been adjusted when the ward clerk marked the person as deceased on church records - - but if they are not LDS - then I would think the profile is still in "limbo"

    That is another matter ...

We need much more information; before, getting into that ...

I was hoping for more detail/information to be forthcoming ...

I was thinking the opposite - I was thinking the most probable thing is the mother's profile is in limbo

because she would never have been marked as deceased

so telling them to "add the mother" is not going to do anything if the profile is in limbo"

yes we need to know more before we can make any sort of statement.

(I was kind of surprised you gave as much info as you did - without the needed forthcoming info)

Sorry, I didn't share that right, haha. What I meant to say is, I know if someone who made a profile in family search. The profile of this person's mother is also in family search, but they are not connected. Is there a way to connect their two profiles without creating an entirely new one?

    Did that make more sense?

You combine multiple profiles that may exist of the same person through the process of merging them.

However, you cannot merge them if one is living and the other deceased. The profile that is in the mother's old account is likely still marked as "Living" (which would prevent it from being seen by everyone as a potential duplicate of other deceased profiles out there)

What is needed is to have that profile that is in her old account's "Private Space" marked as Deceased. Then it will show up visible to everyone and any duplicates that are there can be merged.

If she was a member of the church, once her ward clerk updates her member records to show that she is deceased, her profile in her old account will automatically be updated as well.

However, if she was not a church member and nobody else has access to her old account, you will need to contact FS Customer support help desk to see if they can arrange to have it done for you.
