Is there a way for the system to link two of my ancestors just using their names and/or record numbers?

I was able to back into an ancestor from the 9th century and am now unable reproduce that lineage. Does the system offer that type of tracking?

    .

    Use (BYU) "RelativeFinder".

    .

(BYU) "RelativeFinder" is a "Third Party" Application that is "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

(BYU) "RelativeFinder" has an option to use two (x2) 'FamilySearch Person Identifiers' (PIDs); and, "Compare" them, to see, IF; and, HOW, they are connected/linked (IF they are, in fact, connected/linked).

    .

IF, they are NOT connected/linked, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, "RelativeFinder" will tell you so/let you know.

    .

    Relative Finder _ BYU _ v2.

    https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main

    .

You just use your 'FamilySearch' credentials to 'Sign Into' "RelativeFinder".

    .

Plus, there are MANY other "Bells and Whistles" in "RelativeFinder" ...

    .

    Enjoy

    .

    I hope this helps.

Yeh as Brett points out Relative Finder is one option

    but across so many centuries

the number of people it would have to process and trace would probably be in the millions of names.

evn with the power of Relative Finder - I wonder how long it would take to find trace the line - if it has to go through all possible routes.

Thanks so much for the help. I was not aware of the data base. I gave it a shot but no luck.

I do believe that it will be hard to go back that far.

Thanks and I will keep trying as the site may get stronger.

"RelativeFinder" can only work its 'Magic' properly, if any of the "Branches" of your "Ancestral" lines, BOTH, go back that far; and, are in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

I am so very blessed that I do have some odd "Ancestral" lines that go back MANY (to say the least) Generations in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and, as such "RealtiveFinder' is able to supply me with many 'Connections' ...

    .

Of course, to be able to go back so many generations ... one would have to have/come from "Interesting" Ancestry

    .

I am so sorry "RelativeFinder" was NOT able to help you in this matter ...

    .

But, I hope "RelativeFinder' may be able to help you in other matters ... ie. related to someone of importance.

    .

    Enjoy.

If however - you had a pretty good idea of which initial line it was on - you could shorten the gap between you and this person in the 9th century

so that Relative Finder would have less of a huge gap to trace.

So maybe if you knew it was on the line of your great great grandfather John Doe - then you could use Relative Finder between John Doe and the person of the 9th Century.

The reverse logic would probably be even better (No one gets to the ninth century - unless they got there in the first place by tracing into a ROYAL line - probably at least by the 11th or 12th century.)

so try linking between you and people like King Edward I King of England

(who most people of English descent descend from)

and then also between him and the person of the 9th century.

In other words instead of making one jump between you and the person in the 9th century - make TWO jumps - a jump between you and someone in ROYALTY in the 12-14th century and then a 2nd jump back to the 9th century.

note most data prior to like the 10th or 11th Century is not really based on documentable evidence.
