Parents of my great grandmother Sarah Jane (Jane/Jennie) O'Brien/O'Brian/O'Brein...She was born in Canada (believe it was Ottawa...census spells it Attawa App 1860 though different documents have it a few years earlier or later...She married John L. Kinse

Kinsella who was born , lived and died in NYC. The marriage date states 1877 though I can't find a wedding certificate or marriage application in N.Y....also tried Canada with the limited info...Without a specific first name or parents names, I can't narrow it down. They had 9 children (1 died at the age of 3 years old(. Sarah lived in NYC, moved to NJ with her daughter and family and then moved back to NY to live with another daughter until her death.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Margaret,

Please help me understand--Sarah Jane O'Brien married John L. Kinse? or John L. Kinsella? If it was Kinsella that is a unique surname, actually either one is unique. Were there any spelling variations on John's surname? 1877 is a fairly good time to find records in New York City. Have you checked NYC's Catholic parish records on FindMyPast.com?

Also, have you tried Sarah Jane O'Brien's passenger lists from Ireland to NYC? https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results? https://stevemorse.org/ellis/free.html?port=1849782

Obviously, her name is common, but I would create a spread sheet of all the people with her name and note all the families that traveled with her. Then, you can see if you can find another possible record to see if you can match the names. Tedious, but necessary with common surnames.

Many possibilities, but they may all be a bit challenging.

    Good luck!
