Not being a Member of the Church, has nothing to do with anything, in regard to "Ancestral' lines in 'FamilySearch'.
.
You CANNOT "Share" the "Living" individuals/persons, in your "Private Spaces", in your 'FamilySearch' Account, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', that 'connect'/'link' you both together; BUT, your relative will be able to 'see' the "Deceased" individuals/persons that you see - provided they ALSO have "Duplicates" of the the "Living" individuals/persons, in their "Private Spaces", in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', that 'connect'/'link' you both together.
.
One OPTION that is available to see how you are connected (including through "Living" individuals/persons) is to "Enable Relationship Viewing" when you enable "Relationship Viewing" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' YOU agree to allow OTHER Users/Patrons to see their relationship to you, your display name, your portrait in Family Tree, if available, and any shared ancestors.
.
There are two ways that I know of to enable "Relationship Viewing" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch':
.
One is through your "Settings", under the "Contact" 'Tab', in "FamilySearch".
.
.
.
The other is when you select the "Contact Name" of a User/Patron who has contributed details to a record.

.
I hope this helps.
