Medical Meaning of my Ancestor's death certificate?
I found the death certificate for one of my ancestors and I'm trying to make sense of the cause of death. I think it says, "Obstruction to frontal (?) circulation" and adds "Sunburn" (?) as the secondary cause... but I'm not sure what the first is, and I'm not sure how the latter could contribute to death? Am I not reading it correctly?

@Carol Ann1 and @MRenée J I googled both of what Carol thinks the COD may be. "Frontal" seems to only be associated with aquatic subjects. However, "portal circulation" is the Circulation of blood to the liver from the small intestine, the right half of the colon, and the spleen through the portal vein; sometimes specified as the hepatic portal circulation.
Hope this helps... maybe?

It is likely obstruction of portal circulation. You can google portal circulation but I think it refers to the hepatic portal vein which feeds the liver, stomach, and then intestine.

I read the "Contributory" entry as "unknown".
"Obstruction to" and "circulation" are pretty definite. The word in between is proving hard. The first letter may be 'p': p__tal, but I can't come up with a word that fits.

Maddie,
I believe the Contributory case of death is unknown (not sunburn).
As to the cause of death: obstruction to ___________circulation. I am not sure, maybe someone with a knowledge of medical terms can help with that part.

Would any of you know what would cause obstruction to portal circulation?

possibly the veins clogged from artererial sclerosis
or an embolism

or a tumor or liver disease. Hard to tell from a death certificate with unknown contributing factors. But, that might lead one to think it was a sudden onset, maybe pancreatitis? You'll probably never know.

Just go to Google, input "portal circulation" and all should be revealed!
And, yes, definitely "unknown", not "sunburn".
