Access to Back of Record Not Appearing in an Image

Hello!

I found a death certificate for a family member, Elvera Miralia. On the front of the image under cause of death, someone has written "OVER". Is there a way to access what was written on the back of the record? Perhaps in person when we are able to visit a FamilySearch center?

Here is the record https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X8LY-253

And below is the image

Thank you!

Hi Aimee. I live about 7 miles away from where Elvera lived. I'm going to offer a long shot, but, Rossi Bros. Funeral Home is still in business. You might call them - still family owned and very good people - Phone: 330-788-9651

I doubt that the County Recorder's Office is going to be of help and the state vital stats website says they only have records from 1964 to present. The City of Youngstown Vital Stats number is 330-742-8212.

    interesting

keep in mind - it is probably not FS who digitized the record

many such records are digitized by the organization they came from

and the digital images simply shared with FS

(in this case the state of Ohio)

I would say the best bet in getting a copy of the back side - would be to contact the the original state department where this was created

(something like the department of vital stats in Ohio)

BUT to be frank with you - I would be very surprised if you actually do get such an image. I wouldnt be surprised if all that exists is a digital copy - and in all but a handful - the back side didnt need digitizing - so no backside digitizing was ever done.

BUT maybe someone here in the community or state will prove me wrong.

Let us know what works out.

Thank you - I understand - I'll give it a try and see if Ohio can provide anything more.

    I appreciate the response!

Lots of times (I’ve noticed) with many of the images, there is more info and more images of you click the arrows at the bottom of the screen... I have been able to find so much info that way!

Yes, good idea! I've done that as well - unfortunately in this case, the next page is another record and not the back of the document that I'm interested in - thank you for reminding me, though - sometimes I forget to do that!

I think that a great idea, Melissa! I know of Rossi Brothers - my husband's family has depended on them on many occasions. I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it and didn't realize they were so close to where Elvera lived - thank you!

I was thinking the same thing @Dennis J Yancey  but I know if it was me, I’d still want to see what was on the back of the doc lol

yeh - I guess my question is - when they digitized all the certificates - - did they in turn destroy the originals? or does the state Archives still have the originals? and if so how would one request a look at the original?

someone needs to call the state archives.

Yes, you are correct - I did find her obituary this morning in the Google newspaper articles for the Youngstown Vindicator. Or, rather, it's really a news-piece about her. I thought if someone had third degree burns as she did, that it would be in the paper. It's a sad story, so I will spare everyone. Thanks for the thoughts - I agree it would be interesting to know if the archives retains the records - I now have their phone number so will give them a call.

I called them - they were very helpful and actually found the record and read what was on the back to me! They confirmed that they do not destroy the records. I was very impressed that they would take the time to help like that!

Thanks for letting me know that my city has nice, helpful people working there! And, that they can easily access these old records. I'm so happy that you got the information you were looking for!
