How did my grandfather, Louis Jancel, enter the US in 1913?
Louis Jancel is my mother's father. I have contacted the family in Poland, thanks to Family Search! However, we do not know how he came to the USA. L1GD-XVC is his ID number.
His Polish name is Lucian or Lucjan, and the last name is spelled Joncel or Yoncel in Poland. I know he immigrated in 1913 per the 1920 census but I am unable to locate his record on Ellis Island or Castle Garden. He died in 1931 when my mother was a baby.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

well, the 1930 census (see hints on FamilySearch Family Tree) shows that he has turned in his "papers" In other words he has initiated the process of becoming a United States citizen by filling out the Petition for Naturalization (or whatever title they gave it at that time!) have you located that? It should give his exact birth, and when and how he came into the United States. It should be dated sometime between 1920 and 1930.

No, I have not located the papers. I tried to look, but I don't even know where to look. Can you point me in a direction where those papers would have been filed? Thanks for any direction you can offer. Joyce
