How long can an audio clip be to upload to the memories section? And will it only accept a certain type of file?

On the 'Adding Memories to the Gallery' page it lists MP3 and M4A format.

Its not a matter, so much, of how long - but more how big the resulting file is.

I believe the current size limit is 15MB.

interestingly depending on how the audio is stored that could be anywhere from 5 minutes (very high quality) to as much as an hour (with extreme compression and low quality audio)

Traditional digital audio recording methods can often create some pretty huge files.

However using file compression technologies one can often reduce these file sizes to much smaller then the original.

 

Are the files you are trying to upload - files you already have? or files you are planning on creating? what software/hardware are you using to create the files?

Thank you for this info. I'm trying to edit and separate the talks at my dad's funeral to add to the audio files. He did not keep a journal or records, and I thought this might be a nice way for others to remember him.

We have that app too, but it doesn't seem to be as user friendly and I couldn't figure it out!

the longest audio I have so far is 52 minutes. but that was after applying various compression techniques

I just uploaded one file that is 105 minutes

and based on the file size I am guessing that somewhere around 2 hours is the max time you could squeeze into a 15MB audio file - using special techniques that most people wouldnt know to do.

I tried to upload a FLAC file but got the error message that the format is not supported.

The error message is great at telling me what is not supported. But, it is much more helpful to have the error message tell me what audio formats *are* supported and the maximum size. Example:

"FLAC files are not supported for upload. You can upload MP3 or M4A files that are 15 MB or less."

Please log a bug/enhancement request.

The "Error Message", could ASLO, direct Users/Patrons, to that aforementioned "Knowledge Article".
