@Philip Quick  If you're doing it on your phone in the family tree app you can only unmerge if you haven't made any changes to the person. You should be able to unmerge using your computer by clicking on All Changes on the right hand of the screen while on the Person Page.

Here is the FamilySearch Knowledge Article found under the Help Menu in FamilySearch which fully explains what your needed answer. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-undo-a-merge-in-family-tree

    .

    "Merging"/"Combining" can be a COMPLEX process ...

    .

Start on EASY "Merges"/"Combines" first ...

    .

Complex "Merging"/"Combining" should NOT be undertaken without some experience (with easy "Merges"/"Combines"); and, without due care and attention.

Here are some more/further "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch':

ps: I have sent many 'Hours" addressing/fixing 'wayward' "Merges"/"Combines", by other Users/patrons - I once spent two (2) "Weeks" un-merging/un-combining a 'wayward' "Merge"/"Combine" of two (2) distinct and different/separate Families (with VERY similar names), by another User/Patrons.

Thanks Brett. I merged two people Now I wish I had not. the dates are totally out not just a few years but by over a hundred years in some parts of the tree Grand parents married to grandchild. I can't contact the original Post author as last time they posted was back in 2012, their Email could now be obsolete or they may no longer be alive. all I can do is change name to..."this person did not exist in this time" it looks a complete mess. I have all the correct info, but I need an Admin to help sort things out but can't contact anyone, it must be due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

SuperScreenshot 2020-8-7 7-38-38Hi Brett GWD9-2XX and his spouse GSC5-XB1 also 9XMJ-D2F. two of William Quick and Mary Herred's sons were Richard GWFQ-WFS, and Thomas KCCP-TJV. as you can see there are two unwanted generations between William and Thomas. hope you can sort it. Thanks in advance. PS Richard married Rachel Paine who I added as a second wife.

Also Rachel Hallet 9XMJ-D2F is married to Richard the grandfather and Richard her Grandson. while Richard the Grandson should be married to Rachel Paine but as they share the same code impossible to change just one name.SuperScreenshot 2020-8-7 7-54-39

    Where did it all start?

    Who did you "Merge"/"Combine" first?

And, then, who was next, etc?

I will be able to see Family members involved.

    Just wanted the starting point.

    .

Just try to get a 'handle' on the sequence of events.

    Before I start.

It was a Richard Quick the earliest one I think and it all went wrong from there, I only amalgamated the two Richards one from my tree one from another and bam things were wrong.

    just remember -

whenever you merge someone - you are actually merging more than just one person - you are merging the families of those two people as well.

if you see that the two records you ae about to merge - have two distinct and different families (spouses, children) - then you should seriously think about whether you really are dong the right thing in merging the two records.

Yes it all looked fine but the dates were out now I think i'd never merge again thats if I can get this mess sorted out.
