Hi guys. I'm so new at this. I'm on the hunt for my grandmother's grandmother.
I only know her name because she signed her daughter's marriage certificate consenting to her being married at the age of 15. Her name was Louisa White (married name), her daughter Lucinda White Benefield. This particular side of my family tree has always been said to be Native American. My mom insists Cherokee, my uncle insists Creek. Can anyone give me any pointers to narrow my search? I've also seen "Louisa Cook" come up in some searches but not enough info to confirm that was her maiden name. They lived in Alabama.

@LindseyMontes I did a quick search with search terms "Tribes Alabama". I scrolled down and settled on the one about native languages. As I was looking at it, I thought one thing you might do that should help a lot is to identify where in Alabama she iived. I think that might be a key to narrowing your search.

@LindseyMontes LindseyMontes, four of the "Five Civilized Tribes" were native to present day Southeastern U.S. including Alabama (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Creek). Do you have an ID for this Louisa White or for Lucinda?
