After adding family members and taking a break, I return to see that new additions have been added.

Keep in mind it isnt "your tree" or "my tree"
It is one massive database that we all share.
It is "our tree" - all million users sharing a database of over a billion records.
and you have probably noticed that you can add a record even without proof or source. so can others. . . so NO you cant just "assume". But you can collaborate with these people that share some people of interest
and if you work things right - many people working together can have more power and synergy than one person just working alone.

Short Answer: 'Yes'.
.
And, it would NOT have been the "System" (ie. "Software"), that added those new "Ancestors" to your Ancestral lines.
.
It would have been OTHER Users/Patrons, just like yourself.
.
Wow ... newly found extended Family/Relatives - you can even 'contact' them, if you wish.
.
That is part of what 'FamilySearch' is all about ... "Collaboration"; or, the ability to connect and communicate with each other.
.
Now ...
That said ...
.
We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
We ONLY have "Branches", that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like "Ancestry_com" or the like.
.
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal programmes.
.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
Here is a good place to start, with how things work in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' (and, other programmes as well):

Regarding your question, "Can I assume it is accurate?" the answer would be, "it depends."
Is the information sourced? Can you confirm the information using those sources? Does it seem reasonable and make sense? Does it fit with other known information about the person?
You generally should always take the time to confirm the new information. Do I? Again, it depends. The first thing I do is look to see who added the information. There are some people, who must be relatives of some sort because they do a lot of work on my lines, who are excellent genealogists. Their work is alway top notch and extremely reliable. I don't bother double checking them because they are never wrong.
However, there are a couple of contributors that when I see their names in the change log I cringe and get to work. They do pretty good but have made enough outlandish errors that I always carefully check over every bit of their work and repair things.
