I believe that entering my journals in family search under my name, as a private person, means that
I have some years that I have done my journal on my ipad and I figured I could just download them onto memories. My other journals would have to be scanned.

No. Do not assume that.
Your database "person record" is indeed private.
However Memory Items are not as private.
Though they are not directly "searchable" if linked only to a living person - there are ways one can indeed "find them indirectly".
Do not post private memory items to FS that you dont want others to see.

It is common thought that a living person's memories would be private however this is not so.
However, there is a way to make your memories only viewable to you. It is a simple process to make your journal private, the instructions for this are found in the following articles:

More articles like these and those on many more topics can be found in the FamilySearch Help Centre found by clicking on the question mark in a circle at the top right of any FamilySearch page and clicking on Help Centre at the bottom left of the pop-out box.

We really need a service that you can hire to do all our post humous genealogy requests. My family isn't interested in old yearbooks and furniture and other objects that I've amassed over the years, but they mean the world to me. I'm an only child and not close with cousins etc. so can't ask them.
I would hire someone to sort through and divide up the heirlooms, and tell them where the family tree and DNA's are online, how to get there etc. My kids will NOT be fighting over anything. And won't have big houses to store all this stuff. Yet I want them to have a few things and know why their important, and keep the rest in the extended family.
I would create a list of the sentimental value of everything, and which branch of the family it came from. If no one wants the grandfather clock, then instructions to contact a certain 2nd cousin on my father's side to see if anyone in that family is interested in it. Stuff like that.
A Genealogist who is getting paid would enjoy finding homes for unwanted heirlooms, my kids would just have a quick and easy garage sale. It's just an big ugly old piece of furniture to them.

FS would frown on using its processes as an overt means for a person to sell items - do business.
that would go against rules
HOWEVER - for example - if you had the desk of your grandfather who is deceased. you could take a photo of it
and upload to FS memories linked to your grandfather - with an explanation of what you know about it. (avoiding saying "its for sale" )
and you could simply state if anyone was interested in learning more about the desk to contact you.
no need to hire a genealogist for most of this type of material - you know the items and you probably know who they belong to - - should be a simple 2 minute task to find the people in your family tree and upload a photo.
but yeh - if you have some teenager in your neighborhood that needs some extra money . . . a good job for them.

This is question that I might have asked, I have an extensive set of transcribed journals covering 50 years that I would like upload. Of course I would to keep my musings private while I am still living, but would find comfort that they could be auto-unlocked at some future time, a mechanism that I am sure would be most welcome. Also, there is the question of format? PDF, text, word, there is not guarantee that any of these file formats will be accessible in a 100+ years from now. Any thoughts?
