How to delete duplicate hints. I would like to know the proper way to delete duplicate hints.

You should NOT "Delete" the, SIMILAR; or, "Duplicate", "Hints", you SHOULD "Attached" them.
.
Unless the "Hint" (aka: a "Source") has the EXACT "Same" URL as another; then, in fact, they are NOT "Duplicates".
.
There can often be more than one "Indexing" of a Record leading to SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicates") "Sources" - BUT, they are NOT, in fact, "Duplicates".
.
DO NOT "Dismiss" them, rather attach them.
.
The more "Sources" that are attached to an individual/person, 'the merrier', it is the more evidential proof that an individual/person did actually existed.
.
DO NOT be discouraged by SIMILAR (sometime called by some as "Duplicates") "Sources" - I embrace them, I attach them, so should you and others.
.
What does it matter that other "Indexings" of a Record exist?
.
What does it matter that there are other "Sources" of the same Record.
.
Quite often the other "Indexing" are done through the likes of "Ancesty_com"; or, "FindMyPast_com"; or, the like - even, sometimes by "FamilySearch"; as, the previous "Indexing" may have been flawed or lacking.
.
Once, again, DO NOT "Delete" the, SIMILAR; or, "Duplicate", "Hints", they SHOULD be "Attached".
.
I hope this helps.

I dismiss them, unless I find one that has more indexed information than the previously indexed record. I see no benefit in having the same record attached as a source multiple times.

FYI
.
Something to consider ...
.
If ones "Dismisses" a "Hint" [offered through the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch")] that is, in fact, CORRECT (ie. a "Match"), whether or not that be, a SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Source"; THEN, one is causing the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch") to get the WRONG message/idea; and, therefore, one is WEAKENING the integrity of the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch").
.
It is simply WRONG to "Dismiss" a "Hint" [offered through the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch")] that is, in fact, CORRECT (ie. a "Match"), whether or not that be, a SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Source".
.
Such "Dismissals" are what is causing the the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch") to have so MANY problems/issues; and, be "Adjusted" INCORRECTLY.
.
Many User/Patrons of "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" DO NOT understand the aforementioned.
.
The general attitude that one sees no benefit in having the SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Source" attached multiple times, is widespread; and, is a major concern and problem/issue, that is WEAKENING the integrity of the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch"), that needs to addressed.
.
I hope that all who take the aforementioned attitude, that follow this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, now understand the error of their ways; and, reconsider "Dismissing" those SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources" - otherwise, they are being counterproductive and the WEAKENING the integrity of the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch").
.
I am sorry if I appear to offend, that is NOT my intention ...
.
But ...
That said ...
.
I for one would rather see the integrity of the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch") to be STRENGTHENED, rather than "Weakened".
.
Just my thoughts.

I am not offended at all. Thank you for explaining the system. If you are a programmer working on this, I hope you will not be offended when I express my thoughts.
If this is the general attitude of users, fix the system so dismissing repeated sourcing of the same information doesn't weaken the system. Perhaps there is another option that could be utilized rather than Dismiss, like Duplicate Index to alert the system that the data needs to be reviewed and possibly scrubbed?
Just my thoughts too. Melissa

'No', I am NOT a "Programmer"...
.
But, I am slightly aware of the problem/issue with "Dismissing" SIMILAR "Sources" (ps: they are NOT "Duplicate) that are, in fact, a "Match", for the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch").
.
Oh ... if it were ONLY that easy ...
.
It is the general attitude of the Users/Patrons that MUST "Change" ... that is a very EASY fix.
.
Doing such "Programming" is much more difficult.
.
And, I for one, DO NOT want the SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources" to be "Removed" / "Scrubbed".
.
WHY is such a 'bother' to attach them?
I do not understand that attitude!
Just attach them!!!
And, they will not appear as a "Hint" again!!!
.
Too many Users/Patrons DO NOT realise how difficult that "Programming" is; and, how the more complex a "System" is, the more difficult the "Programming".
.
The Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch") is a GREAT and useful tool for us Users/Patrons, I would hate to see it NOT so great or useful; because, Users/Patrons simply "Dismiss" the SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources"; as, we think it is a 'bother' or too much work to simply attach them.
.
Sad.

Granted, I haven't programmed anything since we were key punching cards, so I don't how difficult it is now. I would think it had become easier, but, maybe it is more complicated. My reason for not attaching Duplicates (which they are on the indexing side) is not because it is a bother, but, because I don't like to see 6 variations of the same record and inflated source numbers.

@Melissa S Himes
.
I am just the opposite ...
.
I do not mind the SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources" ...
.
I ALWAYS attach them ...
.
my philosophy is ... 'the more the merrier' ...
.
More, 'meat on the bones', so to speak.
.
I just do not understand why others, like yourself, have such a problem/issue with it - 'No', I will never understand.
.
I have individuals/persons in my Ancestral lines with 40+; or, 50+; and/or, some with 70+, VALID "Sources" attached - granted some of those "Sources" may be SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources"; but, so what, that is not a problem/issue.
.
But, that is just me.
.
Each to there own.
.
But, for the sake of the integrity of the Mechanism for "Hinting" in the "System" (ie. "FamilySearch"), I would suggest that, regardless, you attach ALL the SIMILAR (sometime called, by some, as "Duplicate") "Sources", rather than just "Dismiss" them.
.
Enough said.

Check out the video "Live with John Huff" on YouTube (May 6/20) with Wendy Smedley - he talks about this and as well as some other helpful info. He is a FS Product Manager. This should answer your question. Good luck!

Thanks, Kristine. That is a really great video and I found a couple others to watch too. Never knew they existed!

Melissa, you are most welcome! Happy it was helpful!

Melissa, I don't know what the video had to say, but regarding attaching all the hints and not dismissing any of them, I look at this this way:
We are not simply attaching sources to individuals on Family Tree.
We are labeling every single indexed record in the historical records database with who that person really is so that others coming after us and working in the historical records database can jump directly to that person in Family Tree and not redo a bunch of work unnecessarily by creating a new person in Family Tree or by repeating multiple searches for that person that we already did.
Here, for example, I'm only part way through the work here:
If you look closely, you will see that these three non-attached records are duplicated indexed records with slightly different place names (Moster was a sub-parish under the main parish of Finnås). When I am done with this family, every record I can find for them in the historical records database will have the small pedigree icon that will take anyone directly to the correct person in Family Tree.
Coming from the opposite direction, Family Tree will then work as a master index for all records for an individual in the FamilySearch databases.
Now, could the source page be improved? Could it be organized better? Should there be a way to toggle between important sources and all sources? Could there be a function such when Google has a bunch of almost identical results and shows something like: "There are more results nearly identical to these, would you like to see them?" Certainly! I don't think anyone would argue about that and there have been various discussion on the getsatisfaction feedback board for years. But for now, go ahead and attach all the hints or at least do not dismiss them.

Here is the video link. The description of Hints starts at time stamp 20:00. The resolution of hints so we can have less duplication of hints discussion starts around time stamp 26:00. I find that many of the hints I get are duplicate records. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvm0MZ0tDfU
