Josef Schiedler b 03-Apr-1838-40-41. Stated he came from Bohemia or Austria. Also stated he came here in 1866. His sister Mary also came over in 1866. First "proof" of Joseph is him being a witness to his sister Mary's wedding 15 Nov 1866 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Milwaukee, WI, then the Baptism of Josef's first child George W. 28 Apr 1869. His sister Mary had Matthias & Catherine as her parents names when she married George Friedl. In HT's records Schiedler is spelled five ways the last being Schiedler. TY bette schiedler

@Bette Schiedler do you know the name of the town in Bohemia that they were from? If not, you'll need to keep looking in US sources to identify that. Knowing that they're from "a small village south of Prague" is not specific enough. Once you know the name of the town then you can post for more information in the Austro-Hungarian Empire group (which includes research for the Czech Republic) and we can provide you with additional direction.

This is the only clue I have found in 20 years of looking. Some of the Catholic records must be indexed. I'm hoping someone find the Schiedler surname & contacts me. Bette
