Age in census with a parenthesis around it, what does it mean?

I have a 2nd great grandfather (and mother) that have their ages listed with parenthesis around them (1880 census), while the vast majority of that census don't. I am unable to find out why. How do I know where to find this answer?

I see 1 other person on the page with it, so I know it's not a mistake....I just don't know what it means. For example, they're 60 and 58 and it's written: (60) and (58)

What is best way to find the answer on this? I do searching in various locations and keeps pointing to the current census and why it's important to participate......

I've screen shot the census I found it on...

    I've never seen this before

I wonder if it was an indication of an estimated age.
