Photo Scanner choices

I will claim a slight level of OCD. Because of that I find myself paralyzed by the choices for photo scanners for multiple sized photos and documents for Genealogical purposes. I don't want to buy a lemon - I want quality and simplicity.

What are your recommendations and why do you like your make/model?

Two sided scan (for photos w/ writing on the back)?

Stand alone unit, or as part of a copier printer?
