Why is merging two people dropping relationships?

I'm trying to merge the countless RLL duplicates, and I'm running into some issues: sometimes merging two people will get rid of a spouse. For some reason, it keeps the children, but deletes the couple relationship.

Most recently this occurred while trying to merge GCPN-LVY and M596-8TJ. I was able to see "relationship deleted" and restore the wife, but this is a pretty major malfunction. I don't know how many merges I've done in the past day or two where I didn't notice spouses getting dropped, and the merge interface is pretty buggy (lots of whitespace where the facts are interleaved, suggesting it's hiding information and then silently dropping it)

@JD Cowell Thanks for the feedback. We have logged a bug for the engineers and are looking into the problem.

@JD Cowell I suggest you post your merge query in the Improved Merge Experience group.

Yes, currently, the new merge routine has problems with merging couple relationships, see:

I tried that lab experiment once and opted out immediately because it was so bad. It didn't feel ready for prime time. I sure hope they're not pushing it live out to everyone now…

JD; There is a short video in the Knowledge Articles that may help you. You can get it by clicling on the ? mark in the circle at the upper right of your home page. Enter "merge" in the query box and click on the "How do I merge" in the drop down.

    I hope this helps.

There is no video and no help center article that is going to help. As I demonstrated here:

    https://community.familysearch.org/discussion/179220/out-in-full-production-now-for-everyone

there is a new flaw in the old merge routine that needs to be fixed. Until it is, you have to be very careful to have the marriage relationship on the right, no matter how little sense it makes to have that profile on the right instead of the left, because the couple relationship or lack thereof on the right is going to be preserved and the one on the left is going to be deleted no matter what.

I had a case several days ago where I was merging two profiles, using the "old" merge process. One had a spouse only and the duplicate had parents and numerous children only. When I switched their positions so that the one with the spouse was on the left (to be deleted) side, the parents and children completely disappeared from view in the merge screen. I noticed that the area for the Family on the right side was very large (probably big enough to accommodate the parents and all the children) but it was blank.

Here is a similar example which has not yet been merged. In step 1, there is a husband on the left side and parents and siblings on the right:

Then, in step 2, the parents and siblings have completely vanished (although there is an area big enough to contain them):

Is there any sort of "report a bug" forum on here? Does support staff monitor these discussions and escalate, or do I need to open a ticket?

As I suggested several days ago, @JD Cowell, posting in the Improved Merge Experience group is the way to report a bug.

Would you suggest that newbies-to-merge not do merges until the bug, ie dropping relationships, is fixed for fear of losing information?
