Indexing Contributor Report Missing Individual Contribution Figures

Up until about a week ago or so, the "Organization Statistics" report available to group admins/leaders for indexing would show the individual indexing numbers for each contributor in the group. That no longer is the case, apparently? Does anyone know what happened? Was this removed on purpose? If so, why?

We were conducting a indexing competition for our Ward and we can no longer provide updated figures for everyone to see the standings.

Hello, Eric. You will still have the total number of indexed records that your group has achieved and be able to celebrate that global achievement. Hopefully some of the members will continue indexing long after the celebration ends. I hope that, if you have not already, you will join our @Indexing Chat group and encourage others to do the same. There are now over 1400+ indexers and reviewers in the group. We have helped many new indexers, especially during these stay at home orders.

    .

Such "Competitions" are exactly one of the reasons that "Statics" were REMOVED from the "Indexing" Reports'.

    .

Take a look at this Message that recently appeared in the Community.FamilySearch Forum in the Group known as Indexing Chat:

    .

    https://community.familysearch.org/s/feed/0D53A00004tSTYdSAO

    .

The emphasis being ... focus on having uplifting experiences and producing quality records

    .

    ie. QUALITY over Quantity.

    .

Indexing should NOT be a Competition - in any, way; shape; or, form.

    .

Doing Indexing is a Service that we provide for others, just as others have done for us.

    .

Another reason is that UNFORTUNATELY, the Statistics of individual Members of Wards/Stakes from Family Tree of FamilySearch were used by some local Church Leaders to Name and Shame. That is why such Statistics were REMOVED from the Family History Activity Report a short while back.

    .

That Naming and Shaming of individual Members of Wards/Stakes by some (probably the same) local Church Leaders most likely extended to Indexing. That is why such Statistics have NOW been REMOVED from the Indexing Reports.

    .

I know that this does not help; but, I hope that it gives some perspective as to ... WHY ...

Sadly, the competition was producing some very positive results in our Ward, such as starting to get new people involved with indexing, overcoming initial barriers and obstacles in participating, actively working on something important while staying at home, and helping Ward members feel more connected with each other. No prizes were being offered, no shaming was occurring, only a planned celebration at the end of the 'competition' (May 31st) to look at the total number of indexed records we had achieved together.

So, as a temple and family history leader in my ward, I'm disappointed this feature was removed - even though, as you say, some may have been using it inappropriately. 😔

I totally understand where you are coming from ...

    .

But, for the Church to have REMOVED such from, BOTH, the Family History Activity Report; and, the Indexing Report, I would venture to suggest that, sadly, it was NOT just "... some may have been using it inappropriately ..."; but, in fact MANY "... may have been using it inappropriately ...".

    .

I am sorry to say it; but ...

    .

Plus, however one wants to 'put a spin on it' ... the Competition nature/aspect in "Indexing" DOES engender LESS "Accuracy"; therefore, downgrading QUALITY - that is a 'given' that cannot be overlooked.

    .

That is human nature ... something that will never change.

    .

Rather than the NUMBER of "Indexed" records, what about a "Competition" for ACCURACY of "Indexed" records.

    .

'Yes', still a "Competition"; but, that is much more appropriate than the number - QUALITY over "Quantity".

    .

    Just my thoughts.
