Does anyone know about Beaver Island, MI?
My ancestors were Mormon and I traced them to Iowa from Missouri and Nauvoo. Then they disappeared but later returned here. I discovered that one greatgranduncle married in 1855 on Beaver Island, Michigan. I did some research and found that after Joseph Smith died, Brigham Young took most of the Mormons to Utah. However, some stayed behind as mine did. A man named James Jesse Strang (he later changed his name to Jesse James Strang) had himself crowned King on Beaver Island but his own followers shot him in the back in 1856. His body was taken to his parents' home in Wisconsin for burial. My other greatgranduncle married there in 1856. In 1858 my greatgrandaunt married a man in Buchanan County, Iowa, and on the 1860 census all of the family was living there and stayed there for many years. I found a local document of my 2x greatgrandfather stating that he had lived in Michigan. My question is, how do I find records of this family on Beaver Island? The 1855 record on FS just states that it is an FS source but I don't know how to find these? There are no Family Search Centers open in my area any more so I can't go there. Also, how can I find my 2x greatgrandfather's birth and/or baptismal record from Nauvoo? He had a sibling born there in 1842 who is never mentioned anywhere but according to the mother's obituary in 1894 she had another son that is not accounted for. I found a map showing where there house was and a document they signed with Joseph Smith. My ancestor was born just after Smith's death and was named after him. I would like to find his birth record stating his middle name and actual DOB.

Oh, good grief, never mind! I asked if anyone else had heard of this place. I don't need all of that stuff. Of course, I have looked it up myself.
