Organizing and Understanding Memories for a Newbie
After years of uploading files to Memories, it's time to organize. I really never took the time to understand a tag or any other features in Memories, so I feel like I am starting anew.
Now, I am sorting and scanning old family photos from my mother's estate that I also want to upload to preserve, tag (whatever that means), provide inside family stories, and ensure they are free to interested persons from current and future generations.
So, I am looking for ideas on how to best organize what I have uploaded and future uploads and any tips on using the features in Memories.
Please speak to me as if I am a new user.
Thanks.

Good morning: Attached are a few web sites for beginners use of Memories in FamilySearch.
Sharing Family Photos A basic source to get started There are also many blogs and videos on the web that are not FamilySearch owned such as Adding Photos and Finding memories.
Hope some of this helps. I guarantee there are many users of this web site that have varied and fun ideas. Hopefully they will all jump on to assist.

Good for you! Here are some additional recommendations.
We have a Memory Feedback group. (Click the link and click to "Join.") From here, you can find How-to's and Known Issues. You can also search for topics like "Tagging."
Also, you can check out the Memory Viewer Guide, which contains a list of articles that can help you with specific questions. (Fair warning, though, many of the Help Articles are slightly out of date—but they should help you get started).
As for tagging, play around with it a bit. It is a hugely important tool, but you'll learn best through trial/error/consistent work.
You can do this!

Thank you, Dennis. Your article provides the insight I am looking for: insight from experienced users about best practices for working efficiently and not having to redo my work. I seem to do the latter more often than I like.
I am most interested in learning how to make finding my photos easier, provide more info when found, and understand albums vs. single uploads so that I can know when best to use them before I create my first album.
As I searched the galleries and albums of other researchers, I found many untitled, untagged, and uncommented photos and documents. I have no idea who the people in the photos and docs are. They might be related to me, but I can't tell.
I wonder if there are standard practices used by all users for tagging, naming, commentary, or other research practices. If they exist, I would like to learn them.
I'll look over your site. Thank you.

different users have different needs and goals as far as organizing and labeling and naming
the system is flexible enough that you can make it work for your purposes.
someone else may have different goals and methods - and thats ok.
do what works for you.but organization is always best - when done from the get-go and not in hind site.
but yes - there are many things that you can do now to organize your photos that you didnt originally do.
I highly recomment the use of albums.0 -

Thank you, Dennis. It's much appreciated. I would rather do the work now than double-work later.
