What is the desired square footage for a workstation in a FamilySearch Center?

The proposal for "updating" our center is to cut half of our computers and put the center into a room which is about 18' x 18'with a corner loss of 8 ½ ft by 32 inches cut out because of an external mechanical room, and leaving us with only 8 computers.

(see attached photos : Proposed A & B)

Is this really what was agreed to for this center?

We are currently in a corner room which has been generally called a multipurpose room. We currently have 15 computers in our FamilySearch Center. Two of our computers have dual monitors.

Our current room is 34’ long by 28’wide along the outside perimeter of the building. The smaller side of the room is 18.5’ x 16’ with one door. The larger side is 28’ x16’ with 2 doors.

The computers are situated along each wall leaving space in the room

for tables for people to use their laptops, etc.

The room which is currently used as the FamilySearch Center is actually the most used room in the building. The center is open generally between120 to 155 hours per month, and it was being used as a classroom on Sundays for Priesthood for both wards (Seminole 1 & 2).

That added another 8 hours per month.

When the youth would come in to prepare names for temple trips, all 15 computers would be used, and sometimes there would be more than one person at a station, taking turns logging in to reserve names and print ordinance cards.

Now that I don't work as an ordinance worker in the temple anymore, I can also open up on Wednesday evenings for activity nights.

Also, I want to begin to teach classes on the use of FamilySearch at least one night a month, and open it to the public.

When we have opened for special events in conjunction with Pinellas Genealogy Society, the forecast would be for maybe 17 or 18 people to attend, but the total attendees usually total 45 to 65 people.

I can't think of a reason that the FamilySearch center can't be used as a classroom on Sundays, since we are not allowed to have any class other than Come Follow Me during church on Sunday.

You may want to pose your question in the group FamilySearch Center Support for Coordinators and Staff.

    Best of luck.
