I am searching for family members of John Francis Shrimpton. Born 13 Jan 1919, Died 14 Sept 1971. He served on the US Hammerhead during WWII, had leave in Fremantle, Western Australia and gave Mum (together with a proposal) what we believe was his Graduation ring. I am heading to the US in March of this year to visit my cousin and want to use this opportunity to return the ring to his family.

Could you please help in this endeavour?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @Leila3717.

    John doesn't appear to have a profile here on FamilySearch; however, there's 7 trees on Ancestry that have his name. You could consider reaching out to them—maybe one is closely related or could tell you more: https://www.ancestry.com/search/categories/42/?name=john+francis_shrimpton&birth=1919&death=1971&gender=f&spouse=helen_sheldon

    @Leila3717 I know this platform is called "FamilySearch," but we don't look for the living here. In fact, we are prohibited from even mentioning identifiable information about someone living. We're involved in family history research - we seek records of the deceased.
    Best of luck with your search.

    @Leila3717
    Thank you for posting your query in the FamilySearch Community. I would be happy to help you find any living descendant of John Francis Shrimpton so you can return the class ring to them in March.

    While personally identifiable information of living persons is not published on FamilySearch, we can certainly use the clues provided on FamilySearch to look for his descendants.

    John Francis Shrimpton was born on 13 Jan 1919 in New York City, NY. He married Helen Louise Sheldon born 15 Aug 1924 in 1950 and they may have had two children. He died 14 Sep 1971 at age 52 in Rockville Centre Nassau County New York. He is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery in East Farmingdale Suffolk County New York. His wife died on 1 Dec 2001 age 77 in Middleburg Heights Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She is buried in Long Island National Cemetery plot 2X 0 5337 with her husband. Source (Find a Grave).The New York City World Ward II Draft Registration Card shows at age 21 on 16 Oct 1940, he was living at 34 W 9th St, Brooklyn Kings County, New York with his mother and he worked for the Superior Meter Company in Brooklyn NY. He as 5 foot 4 inches tall and weighed 145 lbs.

    Because John Francis Shrimpton died young, his wife may be the best person to search to find his descendants. She was alive in 2001. The United States Residence Database shows she was living in Broadview Heights, Ohio in Jan 1999 and in North Royalton, Cuyahoga County, Ohio in Sep 1999.

    I did a google search for Helen Shrimpton in Ohio and found her obituary, which has a list of all of her children in 2001. You should be able to do the same search. While we do not show information for living persons in FamilySearch, we do support queries that would assist you with your quest.
