New bug in the Messaging/chat system of FS (not Community)
I have noticed a new bug within the past week or two
that when I try to use the chat/messaging system - that it ends up hanging my browser.
(this is in the core FS system and NOT in FS community)
it seems to start executing some sort of code thread - that never finishes and never returns control to the browser (keyboard etc,)
I cant even get to the point where it allows me to type anything in from the keyboard - it hangs before it even gets to that point. and the only way to get back control is to refresh the page.
This is using the web version of FS on a full size computer using Chrome and Windows 10
Interestingly - I have multiple FS accounts - and this only seems to happen on some of my accounts - thus it does not seem to be related to the type of computer/browser set up I have.
I have also tried deleting cache etc, to no avail. also rebooting etc.
I do notice that the accounts for which this seems to NOT be a problem - are rather newer accounts - and thus may not have as many past messages etc.
I am thinking I have some how hit some threshold - where by the system is trying to bring in past contacts or past messages - and has some how reached some memory overflow and then hangs and never returns control back to the user.
Wondering if some systems engineer could contact me directly and have him test my specific account. (as this may not be a bug for all users)
with a specific given account - I seem to consistently (always) get this browser hang when trying to acess the chat system send a message.
It doesnt seem to be a sporadic issue
though as I state it only happens with SOME of my (multiple) FS accounts.

I also have this problem. It was working before I went to
"Welcome to an early release version of the FamilySearch home page, only available to Church members"
I use Firefox. I tried Microsoft edge. Same problem. Plus Windows 10. If I just select chat it will open. If I try in any record it locks up.
Please let me know when engineers get this problem fixed.
Thanks Nolan

The problem has been widely reported, so unlikely to have any specific connection to your accounts / set-up.
Please see other recent questions raised in Community on the subject of Chat.

well yes and no
I was just pointing out that it is not affecting all accounts - so those trying to solve the issue - may want to have a specific account they know it is happening to and compare against an account it is not happening to .
But yes - glad to hear it isnt just some isolated issue just for me.0 -
I am also having issues. Is this being fixed or do we need to use a different browser? Thanks!

as far as I cant tell its not browser specific .
so we have to sit and wait for the engineers.0
