How can I purchase a death registration - 1897 from Cook County, Illinois
I have a reference number - "1816" for the death of a John Brittain 85 years, buried 27 Dec 1897, a widow and buried in Oak Wood Cemetery. Notes born about 1812 in England. What I need is an address of where he died or who the informant was. None of that information is contained in a FindAGrave entry (that has incorrect death year, but has him buried with son, DIL, grandchildren). Can I purchase the death certificate for any amount of money or do I need to fly from Australia to Chicago to access. Hoping someone can help. (name removed)

As for the address, the local newspaper reported a burial permit issued for "Brittain, John, 85 years, 5000 Atlantic Street, Dec. 27." You can navigate to that from this clipping, as it's on the correct page. Just search for the name. https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-chicago-chronicle/103743828/

No need to purchase. If you can wait a few days, I'll be happy to retrieve that record image on my next visit to my Affiliate Library. I go most weeks, and I've already been one day this week.4 -
@AngelaBrittain1 You might be able to access the record yourself at a local FamilySearch Center. Depends on where you live in Australia. There appear to be a number of centers on the eastern coast of Australia:
You can check where these are located by clicking on the pin icon at the top of FamilySearch:
Hopefully, one of these is near you!

Thank you to everyone for your response to my query. I am checking to see if there is a Family Search affiliated historical society near to my location (fingers crossed). The South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society has kindly supplied me with a copy of the death and newspaper notice which has sadly indicated he is not my guy as the deceased John Brittain/Brittian at the address 5000 Atlantic St had spent 24 years in the USA (information found in 1892 electoral list) - my guy had only been there for several years at most (from England, after his wife died in 1890). The key to knowing he was not my guy was the address he died at and subsequent finding of that electoral entry (my guy's son was the next listing in that list at 10354 Avenue K - same address he was found at in the 1900 Census.
Once again, thank you to everyone. Sorry for adding my name - and thank you for deleting.

@AngelaBrittain1 I'm at my Affiliate Library and/or FamilySearch Center every week. If you find other records you want to look at, it is very easy for me to add your needs to my list. It only takes a few seconds to retrieve a record copy Please don't be shy about asking for help. That's what this Community is good at doing.
Best of luck with the hunt!
