Irish baptisms: Infant's surname is different than father's surname.
Ireland, Sligo—Church Records, 1740–1880 [Part B] [MQC2-MV6]
In column labeled "Infant" there appears a given name and surname. In column labeled: "Parents" the father has a different surname.
How do I index the infant's surname?
Option 1: Infant surname goes in child's surname box
Option 2: infant given name plus surname in child's given name box, Father's surname in child's surname box
Thank you

Option 3: Infant surname is the father's surname and the surname in the "Parent's" column is the wife's maiden name?

Did you notice these instructions when you opened the batch?
And there is also my post from 18 months ago warning of the problem.

Example: Infant column: Cath OBrien Parents column: Pat & Winifred Handly
Do I index Child's given name: Cath Child's surname: OBrien
Father's given name: Pat Father's surname: OBrien
Mother's given name: Winifred Mother's surname: Handly

Yep, exactly.
The people recording these baptisms took it for granted that children got their father's surname, so they didn't bother writing it down again for the father.

Or, if the child wasn't getting the father's name, the illegitimate status was clearly labeled - sometimes cruelly so.
