My relationship between my 5th great-grandfather and my 6th great-grandfather has changed and I can’t figure out why. I’m hoping someone can help.

Thomas Corey is my 5th great-grandfather-

His father, John Corey is my 6th great-grandfather but “view relationship” no longer shows this -

@Dorothy711 This is a known issue right now. I will send it in to be looked at. Thanks for your patience while we figure it out.

If you have any pedigree collapse in the branch - and many of us do at that genealogical distance - the calculator can be confounded and confused.

In one maternal branch, my 6th GGF is also my 4th GGF as his oldest son is my 5th GGF on one line while his youngest son is my 3rd GGF on another. Online calculators don't have the capacity to deal with the complexity of multiple relationships.

    This is so painfully true.

My ex-husband and I are 12th cousins. Now I sometimes get relationships for my OWN ancestors that say things like "7th cousin 5 times removed of husband."
