"A cross-origin error was thrown" error in Help system
I am using Windows 10 with a Chrome browser.
To reproduce this error, I do the following on the FamilyTree website:
- Open a help screen. For example, Family Tree Help.
- Click the Help button in the toolbar.
- In the Help dialog that appears, type a non-alphanumeric character in the search field, for example double-quote (").
The dialog briefly displays "See All Results" and then completely disappears. At this point, the Help and Chat buttons on the toolbar do nothing. If I scroll to the bottom of the page, I see that a long error message has been appended beneath the standard page footer. It comprises
Oops, something went wrong.
Please refresh the page.
A cross-origin error was thrown. React doesn't have access to the actual error object in development. See https://fb.me/react-crossorigin-error for more information.
This is followed by about 16 lines of method call stack output (24" monitor) and a Sentry ID.
After I refresh the page, the two toolbar buttons work again but a subsequent use of the Help button may display the Help dialog at the left side of the screen where the Chat dialog would appear.
This happens on many, but not all, help pages.

Thanks Áine. Today, after restarting my computer, the cross-origin error doesn't occur. The business with the Help pop-up sometimes appearing at the left side of the screen persists (for me), but I can live with that.

I just followed the steps you listed to reproduce, also using Windows 10 and Chrome, both fully updated.
Search results (5,999 results) display. No error messages.
