Data Problems in Family Tree
Family Tree (FT) does an excellent job of reporting Data Problems that concern dates: such as married before born, or born before Father. There is another area where FT could report Data Problems. That is for sources for events that occurred before the birth of the FT person. In searching the data base, we very often find an ancestor in FT, with a list of sources, and some of them are for events that occurred before the birth of this ancestor. These very often show that there are multiple persons in this one profile. If the correct person for this mismatched source can be located in FT, the source can be added to that person, and then the source can be detached from the person where it is incorrectly attached.
It would be helpful to have this new Data Problem reported, so that the records can be straightened out for these two families that have been incorrectly connected.
Then in addition, the Source Linker could be given more smarts and if a user attempts to add an incorrect source to a person in FT, the Source Linker could flag this as an error, with a message like: This source is for an Event that occurred before the birth of this person. The user could then be given some direction, such as: please locate the person in FT that matches this source, and attach this source to them. These kinds of problems occur very often when there are multiple persons represented in one profile. Perhaps you can straighten out the records for these two families that have been incorrectly connected.

There is a load of work being done in this sort of area under the Profile Quality Score initiative. You may like to get involved in the relevant Group https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/323-profile-quality-score-feedback

A source can be correct for a person with a later birthdate for several different reasons: the index may be wrong about the date, the birthdate may be an estimate, or the event may be relevant to the person because it provides evidence about his or her family. I would be rather perturbed to be impeded in adding an award of arms, say, given to the person's father but including "all legitimate issue".
