FYI for mods: Ohio Nats
With the Ohio Nats projects, we are to index all forms related to the Naturalization process, which includes Certificate of Arrivals. There are usually three dates on the COA; Arrival Date, Witness Date and Filed Date.
The COA looks something like this:
Name: Smith, John
Arrival Date: January 2, 1915
Witness Date: April 21, 1940
Filed Date: July 1, 1942
Going by the GIG, the Record Date would be July 1, 1942. However, when we have done COAs in the past, the date was the Witness Date, April 21, 1940.
In the PI, there is not an example of how to index a COA, so folks should be using the Filed Date. Is it possible to get an example of the COA and the Record Date so there is no (or should be no) confusion on the date when COAs are reviewed?
