Would someone be able to expand and give me some examples of what this means while indexing this project: US—City Directories, 1823–1935 [Part D] [MQ2Z-6GT]

  • Do not index occupations or business information with the principal's information.

I am a little confused because it seems like most of these entries people's occupations are mentioned.

More so I am confused on the second part about business information with the principle's information and would like some examples.

Thank you.

Listings almost always has occupations. The researcher can see the person's occupation when they view the document.

Business names, like Scott Tent & Awning Co., are not indexed because we are indexing residential listings.

Names that are with business listings, like Scott Tent & Awning Co., A C Scott, Pres and Mngr., are not indexed because they will have their own listing elsewhere in the directory.
