See image 1. The clerk wrote the principal's name as Mary Mc Hugh, however in 2 other places on the document it is written as Mchugh without a space. I chose to index it as she signed her name Mchugh. Does it matter if there is a space between Mc and Hugh? I have seen this on other documents as well. I tried to locate any information re: writing Mc but was unsuccessful.

Thanks

In the realm of Mc and Mac names. The correct spelling would not have a space.

No, it really doesn't matter. I've indexed and reviewed both Mc Hugh and McHugh.

Her name will come up in a search in Family Search with or without the space. The important thing is the actual spelling, which is the same either way.
