By using the fan chart …?

I'm guessing that you're talking about either the landscape or portrait pedigree views, which only show up to the 8-person generation (which is grandparents in the landscape view, since it shows both you and your spouse, but is great-grandparents in the portrait view, since it only shows your ancestors). I'm sure there are tradeoffs that make the use of these charts useful for some people, but I prefer the profile detail pages for the detail work and the fan chart (or very occasionally the descendancy chart) for an overview.
