Merge Not Allowed for Newly Created Individual?
I created profile GTX7-7WP because the individual transcribed as "Peter Curbey" in the 1860 Census for Wetzel County did not have a profile page with that name in FamilySearch. After I created profiles for Peter, his wife, and their three kids, it occurred to me that the enumerator probably spelled the surname phonetically. I next searched the Family Tree and found Peter Francis Kirby (K6HJ-4V7) who has a wife and kids with the same names and birth years as the profiles I just created. I then initiated a merge between the existing profile and the new profile. This leads to a new page with an error message: "Merge Warnings: At least 1 of the 2 people cannot be found. Include valid IDs." I have performed this same merging procedure several times in the past for individuals in the census who seemingly lacked profile pages in the Family Tree but upon later inspection I discovered the existing profiles. But today is the first time I have received this error message. Is there a new rule that merges are not allowed for newly created individuals in the Family Tree? Do I need to wait a certain amount of time before the proposed merge will proceed without the error message? Is there any chance we could go back to allowing merges of erroneously created individuals as soon as the correct profile is located?

The problem you encountered had nothing to do with the fact that a profile was newly created. We were made aware of it by Stephanie V in this post. In a later post, a user reported that merge is now working again.
