Trying to find a birth certificate that lists the parents in Jonesboro, Union, Illinois in November 1863. The child name is Lewis Herman Brown, which is difficult, because Brown surname is very common, and we found his name multiple ways, LH, HL, Herman

Have you checked the wiki page for Union, Illinois? Did they even record birth certificates in that location during that time. You might want something that does not exist. Maybe try find other records of birth maybe an index or church records. The wiki page is a good place to start when looking for records in a certain place during a certain time period.

Birth/Death Certificates didnt even exist until the 1900's

you will need to look for other source types:

Family Bibles, Census Records, Church Records, Newspaper records and more
