Is anyone having trouble typing in the Religion or Racial /Tribal Origin when it's not in the drop-down list?

Yes. Canada—1921 Federal Census [MQKR-VKR] I've been working on these for a couple weeks and have always been able to type in what I can see. This morning that field is limited to the drop down list. These are the notes from field help:
If the racial or tribal origin has been abbreviated and you can tell what the abbreviation stands for, choose the racial or tribal origin from the drop-down list. If the racial or tribal origin is not found in the drop-down list, type what you see.
I'm going to move on to other projects until this is clarified. We cannot assume "White" and it seems like a data field that should contain more than "other".

I am frustrated with the changes that have been made. Church of England is used as an example of an abbreviation but is not found in the drop down it no longer allows you to type it in.

I am trying to type in a 25 line census form made for Indians who lived in the Yukon Territory. It will not allow me to "type what I see" which is "Indian." Also, the census taker listed their religion as "Nil" which means no religion. (I know this is incorrect, but "None" is not an option). Any suggestions?

Hopefully someone with information on this programming change will respond soon. I hope they are able to undo this change or update the drop down lists to reflect the entries made by the census takers.

I think <blank> could be used for "no religion." I've noticed very few questions about Canada Census 1921 answered by Family Search so I consider what we already know about U.S Censuses because they're quite similar. Because comments are written by volunteers of all ages and educational levels, I find this Forum to be most informative and helpful. A great loud Shout Out to all volunteers, worldwide 😎

This was definitely a programming change that happened this week. I've been buzzing along indexing hundreds of records and really enjoying this project. Now I feel that vital information will be lost by having to select "other" or creating "BLANK" entries. I usually get a quick response on this forum from knowledgeable folks on any project. I'm still hoping someone will respond soon.

I am currently working on the 1921 Canadian Census. In the past, I have been able to type what I see in many of the boxes, and it would accept what I typed even if it wasn't in the drop down box. However, now, it won't let me.
I am specifically looking at the "Racial or Tribal Origin" column. In the past, I have been able to type what I see (ex. English, Irish, Francais, Anglais, etc.). Now, it will not accept anything that I put in. The field help says, "If the racial or tribal origin is not found in the drop-down list, type what you see." It seems like an inconsistency between what the project instructions say versus what I am able to do.
Is this a mistake on the part of the project leaders? Was there an update that wasn't shown in the project instructions? I would hate to totally ignore so much information in these census records.

I just started indexing this census yesterday and ran into the same problem. I think I will wait until the problem is fixed before I continue.
Is anyone else indexing any Saskatchewan pages in this census? I have a question about how to record the place names properly. In the examples given I'm supposed to pull the parish/township information from the "Place of abode" column but in the Prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) that column only has the four number code corresponding to the meridian, range, township and section. Do I enter those numbers as is or enter the name of the town listed at the top of the page instead ? and where does "Saskatchewan" get entered…under Municipality? That doesn't seem right to me.
For example, the page I am currently working on in Saskatchewan (Dist 229), sub-district 24 in Khedive and the first full abode entry is 4 8 19 2 in the municipality of Norton. Looking at a map, Khedive and Norton are about five km apart.

Hi Michael Houde. A few of us have discontinued working on this census while we await an answer as to what happened or what is going on. Do you have a batch number you can share so someone will be able to look at it and see what it is asking you to do? I was working in the municipality of Calidonia and there was no parish/township.

Saskatchewan is often the birthplace or a parents birthplaces and you'll find Sask as the abbreviation

Hey Michael Houde. Thank you for sharing your batch. I cannot go back a page and look at the household make-up, but I think, just me, that I would index the parish/township as the number 2 and the Municipality as Norton which is in the province of Saskatchewan. I hope this helps. I tried to continue with my indexing, but it is still not letting me manually fill in what I see.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. It has been reported to the appropriate teams. Additionally, it has been noted in another discussion within one of the groups that the engineers have resolved the issue with the fields not accepting what you write. We appreciate your assistance in identifying these problems.

Hello, I think this has been corrected! Yay!
I was just reviewing a batch and was able to change "White" to the entries made by the census taker. I then checked the batch and I was able to enter the race as written.
