Is there any way to be notified when new beginner level projects become available?

Projects are not announced ahead of time. You'll just have to keep checking or index the City Directories project. That's the most straight-forward project right now.

I agree that the City Directory projects are very easy but only if you read all the project instructions before doing any indexing as there are specific rules that apply to this project only (or at least few projects do)

I didn't mean necessarily in advance. Just a notice by email, possibly, or elsewhere in FS, but thanks for the reply and the suggestion to continue with the City Directories. I have read and also written down all of the instructions as is asked.

There's only been two instances, in the 10 years I've been indexing, that they've reached out about projects. The first was around July 4, 2015 for a huge "indexing weekend" and in 2022 when the 1950 Census was released, and that too, was announced as a huge project, but they were not announcing that the Census indexing would start on X date. IIRC, the Census was indexed by AI with humans doing the checking/editing of records.
