what are your intentions in going to another party?Giving the background / context in your quetsion would be very helpful in giving the right answer.

Hello is there anyone around to answer my question? Who can I upload my DNA from Ancestry to? I want to get it to another party that does DNA.

I want someone other than Ancestry to have my DNA to see if there are differences. They do not seem to have mine right. I have a sister living, at age 95, I am 85 and our DNA doesn't match, nor does her sons match ours either. Is Ancestry making a mistake? I know for sure they have lots of mistakes in the data you get from them. So I just wanted to see what another DNA company would have. I can always just go to another company and send them another DNA sample. my niece uses 23and ME.

Party wasn't the right word. I should have said company. Is there another company that I can upload my DNA results to that might find something other than what I got from Ancestry. Does Ancestry have to do the uploading, or do I just ask them to upload it to another company?

Good bye. Not getting any results.

the type and details of DNA testing can vary greatly from one company to another.
so the answer to your question may not be a straightforward one. And tests between various companies may not be compatible. But lets see what other fellow FamilySeach users have to say in their experiences.
But note FamilySearch itself does not even handle DNA testing - many of the people who can answer your question are representives (or users) of companies outside of FamilySearch.0 -
like I said - your asking your question in a forum for an organization that doesnt even do DNA Testing. . .

You might try posting your question directly to this focus group that focuses on Genetics and Genealogy
You may need to "Join" the group before you can post a qestion.
Most companies are not going to faciltate - passing their results on to another company. (why would they??)
But surely you can take a different test with any company that you wish to use . . .
But all so often the problem is not in the companies testing - all so often it is a mis-interpretation of the results.1 -
This is a community forum, not a direct chat with anyone. People won't answer immediately, and new responses won't appear unless you refresh the page.
But back to the point, it occurs to me that it may be the ethnicity estimate causing the confusion. From what I've heard, the ethnicity estimate is more or less an educated guess, and therefore varies from person to person. If that's the issue, going to a different company would just give you another educated guess.

yes - but assuming two biological siblings take the test - the results should show them as siblings and other close family as "matches"
But yes ethnicity testing is based on complex factors that can and do vary from even one sibling to another. (siblings dont inherit the same DNA from both parents).
so just because many people in the family take an Ancestry ethnicity test - you can indeed get different results for each person.
So again - what is often wrong is not the test results - but how we so often interpret them incorrectly.1 -
@Dennis J Yancey She said the DNA didn't match, but she hasn't said how. I figured I might as well explain the area with a guaranteed difference.
Though, if I was right about that, then there would be no point in mentioning that her nephews had different results, since that would be expected even if it was 100% reliable, so perhaps I jumped to that hypothesis too quickly.

you are right - there was plenty of room for ambiguity in what she said.
That being said - for most people a "match" is when Ancestry.com tells you - you have a match with an apparent (sibling, 1st cousin, 2nd cousin, etc etc.)
but yes - if she just meant the enthnicitiy wasnt matching - well it wont always match - and thats ok - because siblings dont inherit the ancestral genes in the same proportion.
truth is a persons pedigree ethnicity - versus their DNA ethnicity are not the same thing - even if the test is perfectly accurate. because its not measuring your pedigree - its meausing the amount of ethnic DNA you actually inherited which is uinique to YOU among your siblings and extended family - even if you all share the same pedigree2 -
There are many online forums with participants knowledgeable about DNA. The FamilySearch Community is not the best place to ask.
You can upload your Ancestry results to several other platforms.

Many of you took time to answer, and gave me some valuable information. I am so old (85) and do not know enough about doing something different with my DNA. I did the test many years ago with Ancestry, but have cousins who have uploaded their DNA to other companies. Thus, my question. I didn't know that FamilySearch wasn't a place that did the DNA. Like I said before, I can just go to another company and ask to do the DNA with them. My niece uses 23andME. Her mother is my 95 year old sister who has not done any genealogy research, but one of her twin boys is into the genealogy and did his DNA with Ancestry and also had his mother do her DNA at Ancestry. She and I had much DNA alike, but some that didn't. I guess I thought it should all be the same. We were both from the same parents.
I want to thank everyone that responded to my question. You were very nice and helpful. Thank you so much. Patricia D. Long.
