How long will developers permit the broken Feedback tab to remain on the FamilySearch home page?

The Feedback tab on the left margin of the FamilySearch home page has been inoperative for a loooong time. I tried to provide feedback several weeks ago, and got the message "An error has prevented the requested action. Please visit the FamilySearch Community for help or to report an issue." I waited several days, thinking surely this will be fixed soon, but it has never been fixed. … More recently I was able to exchange messages with some missionaries whose assignment is to provide FamilySearch help, but was told they are not permitted to even forward comments to the developers for review.

Maybe posting in this forum is the only way to get the attention of developers. If not, we definitely need a better process to provide input and feedback. And in the meantime, we shouldn't go live with system changes until they've been tested to work properly (e.g. the Feedback comment above, or the missing Deleted Person banner referenced by another user in a recent post).

Having said that, for the most part the tool is a great resource for family history work, and I appreciate the efforts of those who have brought it this far.

(My apologies, as it appears that my initial post of this question went under the heading of Temple, and should have been Family Tree.)

I just tested the Feedback button on the Home page (https://www.familysearch.org/en/home/portal/) and got the expected Feedback options with a series of emojis. Windows 10, Firefox, both fully updated. IOW, it doesn't seem to be broken for everyone.

You don't say what problem you experienced that led you to leave Feedback. The developers do visit this community but, without details, they can do nothing.

'We shouldn't go live with system changes until they've been tested to work properly'. Agreed 100%, though it should not need saying at all. Plus, until they have been given sufficient regression testing to ensure they do not cause unexpected trouble elsewhere. Which really does not seem to be happening. It would also be useful if the community was made aware of changes in advance.

    Thanks for your responses.

Áine, I use Windows 10, Chrome, both current, and it doesn't work. However, I just tried Firefox and it does work. Is there something about Chrome that the system handles differently? Or maybe something deeper on my end in Chrome?

We are trying to get this to the correct engineers. Thank you for the computer information you have provided to try to help narrow down the problem.

I am also on Windows 10 with Chrome and it is working. Have you tried incognito mode? Do you have any add-ons installed that might be blocking the pop-up?

It's likely something in your settings for Chrome, rather than Chrome itself. Several extensions/add-ons have been identified as blocking the use of the Feedback button. Specifically, Malwarebytes Browser Guard, uBlock Origin, and AdBlock may interfere with the Feedback button on FS. Disabling those - just for FS - may correct the problem.

You guys are all GREAT. Thanks for your comments. … Now the embarrassing confession part: I normally run AdBlockPlus. I disabled it for FamilySearch and that Feedback tab works perfectly.

    Thank you!!!

Doesn't work for me, either, from this page. I wanted to report that images 13, 14, and 15 are all the same image and that images between 12 and 13 are missing in this scanned document. Possibly the remainder of the S list and nearly all of the T names are not included as a result. I'm in Win10 using Vivaldi. Same thing happened when clicking the Give feedback from the Full Text Search results page.

@JanW2 Did you disable any adblockers?

    Repaired URL: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS4Y-HV2P?view=fullText&keywords=Whittaker&groupId=TH-909-61118-16642-58

I just tested, and Feedback worked on that URL/page. Please check your AdBlockers.

Thanks! That fixed the error problem. I learned something: how to turn off adblocking and tracking with Vivaldi. It works different from other browsers I think. It's built in and defaulted to block. For help for others in future: click the shield icon in the URL address bar, left end.

Next: All it gave were the emojis. Where do I provide actual written feedback to explain problems I found? A smiley face or frown isn't going to do much to fix things. [Update: I found your answer to write to books@familysearch.org, which I am now. Cheers!]

@JanW2 After clicking an emoji, there will be a box to enter more descriptive information about the problem. You can also provide an email.
