Cemeteries listed on death certificates
My 2nd great-grandfather died in 1912, in Lafayette County, Missouri. Greenton Cemetery is listed on his death certificate. I have searched every available online cemetery/grave website (that I know about), and get zero results. I tried calling Greenton Cemetery and was told that I was welcome to walk the cemetery and look for his headstone (I live in Arizona). His probate records show that he purchased a headstone before his death. Can someone be buried somewhere else despite the cemetery that's listed on their death certificate?

Absolutely.
- My grandfather's death certificate has one cemetery listed and then an amendment for his burial in a different cemetery.
- An uncle was buried in one cemetery and then later moved to be buried in a family plot.
- A child I researched recently died and was buried in Chicago, later disinterred, and buried in Philadelphia.
- A cousin's obituary lists one cemetery and the death certificate lists another.
There are also many cemeteries with "term" burials. After the term is up, if perpetual maintenance is not paid, the plot is available to be used for another burial.

Unless you have a website that claims 100% coverage of Greenton, he could still be buried there. Most websites don't make any such claims about their coverage - some do, so you have to understand what the coverage is.

Even when there is a book on the cemetery, such a volume is usually created by volunteers who walk the cemetery and note what is written on the markers. If a marker was not installed, no notation. Older markers have often sunk into the ground or may be hidden in the undergrowth. Again, no notation.
There is a 7-volume series of books covering the Cemeteries of Lafayette County, MO. Greenton Baptist is covered in Vol 2. The series is available in SLC https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/19657 and in other libraries.
